An Caisteal, 'The Castle', lives up to its name with a fortress-like summit profile of crags and battlements. Situated near Crianlarich, it is a popular peak often climbed with Beinn a' Chroin. The long northern ridge, known as 'Twistin Hill', provides a delightful, airy approach with scrambling sections that lead directly to the castellated summit rocks, offering fun and exposure in equal measure.

About An Caisteal

Its defensive appearance gave rise to the name. The 'Twistin Hill' ridge was a traditional drovers' landmark. It forms part of the watershed that sends water to both the Atlantic and the North Sea, marking a major geographical divide in the Southern Highlands.
