An Coileachan Terrain Block

An Coileachan is the easternmost peak of the Fannichs, a 'Cockerel's Comb' of rock rising steeply from the desolate moors. It is a remote and rugged mountain, often the starting or finishing point for the 'Great Fannichs Traverse'. Its eastern corrie is deep and rocky, holding snow late into the spring, while its western slopes connect to the main ridge system via a bealach.

About An Coileachan

The name 'The Cockerel' likely refers to the jagged, comb-like appearance of its summit rocks. The Fannichs were the scene of a major hydroelectric scheme in the 1950s, but An Coileachan remains wild and untouched, a bastion of the old wilderness.
