An Sgarsoch Terrain Block

An Sgarsoch is one of the most remote Munros, located in the wild 'empty quarter' where the Cairngorms meet Atholl. It is a rounded, desolate hill, requiring a huge walk-in from any direction. It was historically a place of summer shielings, where cattle were grazed in the high months. Today it offers a profound sense of isolation and silence, miles from the nearest paved road.

About An Sgarsoch

The 'Place of Sharp Rocks' (though it is largely grassy now) was once a bustling marketplace! The 'Fèill Eatan' (Fair of St. Eata) was reportedly held on its lower slopes in medieval times, a meeting point for drovers from Deeside and Atholl to trade cattle and goods.
