An Socach Terrain Block

An Socach (Glen Ey) is a substantial bulk of a mountain with a long, flat whaleback ridge. Its name means 'The Snout' or 'The Projecting Place'. It sits deep in the Mounth, usually accessed via the long land rover track up Glen Ey. The summit ridge is stony and exposed, offering fine views towards the Glenshee hills and the Cairngorms, a stark landscape of heather and rock.

About An Socach

There are two Munros named An Socach; this one is in the Mounth. Its name describes the 'snout-like' projection of its ridge. The ruins of Altanour Lodge at the base serve as a poignant reminder of the area's sporting history and the Victorian obsession with the Highlands.
