About An Stac

An Stac has for centuries been part of the vast royal hunting grounds of the Moidart estates, its lands historically vital for the wild deer herds and the ancient highland clans. Historically, it was a focal point for the early communities that lived in the hidden glens, its ridges serving as vital lookouts durante the era of clan warfare and the Jacobite risings. Geologically, it is part of the Moine supergroup, its rocks recording millions of years of tectonic pressure, now evident in its folded rocks and sharp ridges. Today, it remains a peak of pilgrimage for those seeking a true encounter with the wild, untamed heritage of the West Highlands, requiring long approach through the hidden glens that ensures its summit remains a place of quiet, uncompromised highland silence.
