About Aonach Buidhe

Aonach Buidhe has for centuries been one of the most remote mountains in the Highlands, part of the ancient deer forests of Killilan and Patt. Historically, it was a place inhabited only by highland shepherds and hunters, its glens seeing little of the clearance drama that affected more accessible areas. Geologically, it is composed of ancient Moine metamorphic rocks, its forms smoothed by the massive ice sheets that once covered the entire northwest landscape. Today, it remains a focal point for those seeking a true encounter with the wild, untamed heritage of the Scottish interior, requiring long expeditions through pathless glens that ensure its summit remains a place of profound highland silence.
