Aonach Eagach - Meall Dearg Terrain Block

Meall Dearg is the central and highest Munro on the Aonach Eagach, famously the narrowest ridge on the British mainland. It sits dramatically above Glencoe, presenting a formidable challenge. The approach involves sustained scrambling along a jagged, notched ridge that offers exhilarating exposure. From the summit, the view down to Loch Leven and across the Mamores is breathtaking, while the vertical drop into the glen below is stomach-churning.

About Aonach Eagach - Meall Dearg

The name means 'Red Hill', referring to the reddish hue of the rhyolite rock. It is infamous in Scottish mountaineering history as the crux of the Aonach Eagach traverse, a test piece for aspiring Munroists. It has a sombre reputation due to the number of accidents on the ridge.
