True to its name—the 'Hill of the Dog'—this peak served as a vital landmark for centuries, its ridges historically vital for the wild deer herds and the ancient highland clans. Historically, it was part of the vast royal hunting grounds of the MacGregor and MacFarlane estates, its lands historically part of the ancient ecclesiastical and military history of the region. Geologically, it is part of the Dalradian metamorphic complex, its rocks recording millions of years of tectonic pressure, now evident in its folded rocks and sharp ridges. Today, it remains a peak of pilgrimage for those seeking a true encounter with the wild, untamed heritage of the West Highlands, offering a quiet, uncompromised encounter with the wild spirit of the hills.
