The name Beinn a' Chuallaich—the 'Hill of the Shepherd' or 'Hill of the Boar'—reflects the ancient pastoral and hunting traditions of the Rannoch estates. Historically, it has been a focal point for the early communities that lived in the hidden glens, its ridges serving as vital lookouts over the lochs. Geologically, it is composed of metamorphic Dalradian rock, its form sculpted by the massive ice currents that once flowed through the Rannoch gap. It remains a witness to the enduring traditions of travel and exploration that define the central Highlands, offering a quiet, uncompromised encounter with the wild spirit of the hills.
