Beinn Achaladair Terrain Block

Beinn Achaladair falls in a steep, unbroken wall to the Moor of Rannoch, presenting a formidable barrier when seen from the train. Its name 'Hill of the Field of Hard Water' hints at the harsh conditions often found here. It is usually climbed with Beinn a' Chreachain, connected by a glorious high-level ridge that provides easy walking with massive views over the Great Moor.

About Beinn Achaladair

The 'Field of Hard Water' likely refers to the frozen icy flats of the lochans below in winter. It lies on the boundary of the great Rannoch Moor, historically a treacherous place for travellers. Remnants of the ancient Caledonian pine forest can be found on its lower slopes.
