Beinn an Lochain—the 'Hill of the Little Loch'—is a mountain of exceptional height and sharp definition in the Arrochar Alps. Reaching 902 metres, it was famously stripped of its Munro status when a more precise survey revealed it fell short by just a few heart-stopping feet. Yet, what it lost in classification, it retains in character; its precipitous rocky ridges and deep corries make it one of the most challenging and visually striking peaks in Argyll. It guards the picturesque 'Rest and Be Thankful' pass, rising with a steep, craggy grace that commands the attention of all who travel west. Its complex geology of mica-schist has been sculpted into a sharp, narrow summit crest that offers some of the most dramatic mountain vistas in the southern Highlands.
