Beinn Bhan Terrain Block

Rising as a massive, architectural fortress of Torridonian sandstone, Beinn Bhàn is widely regarded as the most spectacular mountain in the Applecross peninsula. Its name—the 'White Hill'—belies the deep, ochre hues of its massive western buttresses, which drop in extraordinary, tiered curtains of rock into a series of deep, glaciated corries. The mountain is defined by its five great corries, each separated by colossal, shattered ridges that feel more like high Himalayan terrain than the western Highlands. From its high, rolling summit plateau, the view stretches across the shimmering reaches of the Inner Sound to the distant, serrated horizon of the Cuillin on Skye. It is a place of raw, uncompromised grandeur, where the heritage of the wood and the ancient rock meet in a harmony of rugged highland drama.

About Beinn Bhan

Beinn Bhàn has for centuries been the spiritual and physical heart of the Applecross estate, a landscape inhabited only by highland shepherds and hunters since the early Christian era. The mountain's massive eastern corries were famously surveyed by early pioneer geologists, who identified its horizontal strata as the definitive record of the billion-year-old Torridonian system. Historically, it was a focal point for the early communities that lived in the hidden glens, its ridges serving as lookouts over the Atlantic. Today, it remains a place of profound silence, reachable only by rugged approaches that preserve its status as one of the ultimate icons of the Northwest Highlands.
