Beinn Chuirn Terrain Block

Rising as a majestic, cone-like sentinel above the high reaches of the Cononish glen, Beinn Chùirn is a mountain of extraordinary symmetry and strategic importance. About Beinn Chuirn

Beinn Chùirn—the 'Peak of the Cairns'—is famously linked to the early gold and silver mining industry in Tyndrum, with its slopes at Cononish still the site of Scotland's only commercial gold mine. Historically, it has been a focal point for the early communities that lived in the hidden glens, its ridges serving as vital lookouts over the lochs. Geologically, it is composed of metamorphic Dalradian rock, its form smoothed by the massive ice currents that once flowed through the Tyndrum gap. It remains a witness to the enduring traditions of industry and exploration that define the central Highlands, offering a unique encounter with the mineral wealth and the wild spirit of the hills.
