Beinn Dearg Terrain Block

Beinn Dearg (Ullapool) is the highest mountain in the group north of the Dirrie More, a colossal wall of red sandstone. It dominates the skyline with its massive northern cliffs. The 'Famine Wall' runs right over the summit ridge, a historic drystone dyke built in the 19th century. Its scale is impressive, dwarfing the neighbouring Munros and offering a true mountaineering challenge.

About Beinn Dearg

The 'Great Red Peak'. The dazzling Famine Wall was a relief project during the potato famine, built by destitute highlanders in exchange for food. It remains a stark, beautiful monument to Highland history and struggle in a wild setting. The mountain was a royal hunting forest.
