Beinn Dearg Bheag Terrain Block

Rising as a spectacular, architectural bastion of Torridonian sandstone in the remote heart of the Dundonnell wilderness, Beinn Dearg Bheag—the 'Little Red Hill'—is a mountain of exceptional geometry and geological character. While it stand in the shadow of its larger neighbour Beinn Dearg Mòr, this peak provides perhaps the most photogenic perspective of the entire Fisherfield heartland. The mountain is defined by its massive, tiered sandstone terraces and crystalline summit ridge which rose as a high bridge between the watery reaches of the north and the raw, uncompromised power of the West Highlands. From its high, rolling summit plateau, the view stretches across the shimmering reaches of the Atlantic to the distant, serrated horizon of the Western Isles. It is a place where the heritage of the wood and the ancient rock meet in a harmony of rugged highland drama, standing as a sentinel over the absolute remote.

About Beinn Dearg Bheag

True to its name—the 'Little Red Hill'—this peak reflects the deep iron-rich hues of the ancient Torridonian sandstone that defines its architecture. Historically, it was part of the vast hunting grounds of the northern Highlands, its lands historically vital for the wild deer herds and the ancient highland clans. Geologically, it is a perfect laboratory of Northwest Highland geology; its base is formed of billion-year-old sandstone, which is unconformably capped by the glittering white moves of Cambrian quartzite. This contrast in rock and vegetation makes it one of the most distinctive and biologically rich mountains in the region, standing as a sanctuary for those seeking the true, rugged essence of the Scottish wilderness.
