Beinn Mhanach Terrain Block

Beinn Mhanach is a rounded, grassy dome hidden away behind the Auch glen. Its name 'Monk's Hill' suggests an ecclesiastical connection, perhaps a hermitage. It is famously guarded by several river crossings which can be difficult in spate. The summit is distinct for the quartzite veins running through the schist, giving it a bright appearance.

About Beinn Mhanach

The 'Monk's Hill' might relate to lands owned by a monastery, possibly nearby Tyndrum (St Fillan's Priory). It is one of the quietest Southern Highlands peaks due to the long, boggy approach. The solitude here is cherished by those who endure the wet feet to reach it.
