Ben Avon Terrain Block

Ben Avon is a vast, sprawling mountain in the eastern Cairngorms, famous for the huge granite tors that dot its expansive plateau. The highest of these, Leabaidh an Dàimh Bhuidhe (Bed of the Yellow Stag), forms the summit. It feels like an arctic island, remote and sub-tundra in character, requiring a long approach to reach its unique, tor-studded summit.

About Ben Avon

The name means 'Hill of the River A'an'. Its remoteness has kept it wild, though it was once a hunting ground where stags were driven. The granite tors are survivors of the ice age, and 'Bed of the Yellow Stag' is a poetic nod to its wildlife heritage.
