Ben Cruachan Terrain Block

Ben Cruachan is the 'Hollow Mountain', housing a massive hydroelectric power station deep within its granite core. But above ground, it is a mountain of jagged peaks and rocky ridges, forming the famous Cruachan Horseshoe. The summit offers one of the best viewpoints in Argyll, overlooking Loch Awe and the western seaboard, a contrast of industrial genius and natural splendour.

About Ben Cruachan

The clan slogan of the Campbells is 'Cruachan!'. The mountain was transformed in the 1960s by the ambitious pump-storage hydro scheme, but the wild character of its ridges remains untouched. It stands as a symbol of Clan Campbell power.
