Ben Hope Terrain Block

Ben Hope is the most northerly Munro, a solitary giant rising from the flow country of Sutherland. It stands in splendid isolation, offering views that stretch to the Orkney Islands on a clear day. Its western face is a complex tier of crags ('crag and tail' formation), while the ascent route follows a simpler path from the south. It feels like the edge of the world.

About Ben Hope

Name means 'Hill of the Bay/Fiord' (Norse origin 'Hóp'). It has always been a landmark for mariners venturing around Cape Wrath. Its isolation means it hosts unique arctic-alpine plants and was a final stronghold for the wolf in Scotland.
