Ben Wyvis Terrain Block

Ben Wyvis is an immense, isolated whaleback mountain in Easter Ross. It is a huge mossy plateau that dominates the skyline north of Inverness. The summit, Glas Leathad Mòr, is vast and covered in carpet moss. It is a National Nature Reserve, protecting its dotterel population and unique sub-arctic vegetation.

About Ben Wyvis

Name 'Beinn Uais' means 'Noble Hill' or 'Awesome Mountain'. Historically, the landowner held the land on condition of producing a snowball for the King on any day of the year, as snow lingers long in its corries. This 'snowball clause' was famous in Scottish legal history.
