Broad Cairn Terrain Block

Broad Cairn is a high plateau mountain in the Mounth, part of the cluster around Loch Muick. It is a vast, rounded dome of granite tundra, its summit a broad expanse of moss and stones. It is often climbed as part of a circuit from the famous loch, passing the ruins of a royal retreat.

About Broad Cairn

Named simply for its shape. Queen Victoria loved the Loch Muick area and had a retreat, Glas-allt-Shiel, built on its shores. The mountain stands guard over this royal landscape, offering a sense of Victorian grandeur.
