About Brown Cow Hill

True to its name—the origin of which is debated but potentially refers to its broad, dark, rounded shape—this peak has for centuries been part of the vast hunting grounds of the eastern Grampians. Historically, its ridges were vital lookouts for the hunters and later the stalkers who maintained this landscape for red deer. Geologically, it is composed of metamorphic Dalradian rock, its forms smoothed by the massive ice sheets that once covered the entire central landscape. It remains a witness to the enduring traditions of travel and exploration that define the southern Highlands, offering a quiet, uncompromised encounter with the wild spirit of the hills.
