Càrn a' Mhaim Terrain Block

Càrn a' Mhaim is a long, narrow ridge connected to the southern flank of Ben Macdui. Its name 'Cairn of the Pass' refers to its position guarding the Lairig Ghru. The traverse of its narrow, boulder-strewn arete is one of the finest walks in the area, offering incredible views into the deep trench of the Lairig Ghru and across to the Devil's Point.

About Càrn a' Mhaim

Geologically, the ridge is a classic example of an arete, sharpened by glaciers grinding down the Lairig Ghru and Glen Luibeg. It has been a lookout point for centuries, watching over the travellers on the Lairig Ghru drovers' road below.
