Càrn an t-Sagairt Mòr Terrain Block

Càrn an t-Sagairt Mòr, the 'Big Hill of the Priest', sits centrally on the White Mounth plateau. It is notable for the wreckage of a Canberra bomber that crashed near the summit in 1956, parts of which are still visible. The gentle, grassy slopes lead to a broad summit that commands extensive views over the Balmoral estate.

About Càrn an t-Sagairt Mòr

The name implies a religious connection, perhaps a priest's route or retreat. The air crash site is a sombre memorial, respecting the history of aviation in these treacherous hills. It is often visited by those paying respects as well as hillwalkers.
