Càrn Ghluasaid Terrain Block

Càrn Ghluasaid is the first peak encountered on the classic South Glen Shiel Ridge traverse when approached from the east. It is a complex mountain with a broad, plateau-like summit that overlooks Loch Cluanie. The view down to the loch is precipitous and impressive. While often treated as just a stepping stone to Sgurr nan Conbhairean, its eastern corries hold deep snow and offer good winter climbing.

About Càrn Ghluasaid

The 'Hill of Movement' overlooks the old military road to Skye. The construction of the Cluanie Dam raised the water level of the loch, changing the landscape at its foot. It has been a strategic viewpoint for monitoring the glen for centuries, from clan skirmishes to modern deer stalking.
