Càrn Mairg Terrain Block

Càrn Mairg is the highest of the four Munros in the Glen Lyon horseshoe. Its summit is a chaotic jumble of schist blocks, giving it a rugged, fortress-like appearance. The 'Peak of Sorrow' or 'Dead Peak' dominates the skyline north of the longest glen in Scotland. The views are exceptional, looking deep into the heart of the Ben Lawers range to the south and Schiehallion to the east.

About Càrn Mairg

The name 'Peak of Sorrow' is thought to relate to local legends or perhaps the gloomy appearance of its rocks in poor weather. It sits on the Chesthill estate, an area with a long history of deer management and grouse shooting. The stone from this area was traditionally used for local dykes.
