Cairn Bannoch Terrain Block

Cairn Bannoch is a remote, rocky dome situated on the vast White Mounth plateau. It is often climbed as part of a long circuit from Glen Doll or Loch Muick, linking with Broad Cairn. The terrain is typical of the high Cairngorms—exposed, sub-arctic tundra dotted with granite boulders. While not the most prominent peak, its position offers solitude and expansive views across the rolling plateau towards Lochnagar and the distant sea.

About Cairn Bannoch

The name means 'Pointed Hill', though it is more of a rounded hump on the plateau. Historically, this area was a crossing point for drovers and travellers moving between the glens. The nearby Dubh Loch is one of the darkest and most impressive cliff-girt lochs in the area, often visited on the approach.
