Rising as a massive, broad-shouldered massif in the high country between Glen Moriston and Glen Garry, Druim nan Cnamh—the 'Ridge of the Bones'—is a mountain of profound solitude and immense scale. Occupying a high heartland in the central Highlands, it is a quintessential peak of the Glen Garry interior, characterized by its vast, rolling expanses of weathered peat and hardy sub-arctic flora. While it lack the sharp precipices of the western ranges, its summit provides what many consider the most isolation and comprehensive view of the high western interior, looking out over the winding reaches of Loch Cluanie and the distant, dramatic peaks of the South Shiel Ridge. It is a place of endless horizons and shifting light, standing as a sentinel over the ancient, glaciated pathways of the western forest.

True to its name—the 'Ridge of the Bones'—this peak served as a vital landmark for centuries, its ridges historically vital for the wild deer herds and the ancient highland clans. Historically, it was part of the vast royal hunting grounds of the central Highlands, its lands historically part of the ancient ecclesiastical and military history of the region. Geologically, it is composed of metamorphic Moine rock, its forms smoothed by the massive ice sheets that once covered the entire central landscape. It remains a witness to the enduring traditions of travel and exploration that define the central Highlands, offering a quiet, uncompromised encounter with the wild spirit of the hills.
