True to its name—the 'Fort of the Two Winds'—this peak served as a vital landmark for centuries, its ridges used by the Norse and later the clans for navigation and defense. Historically, it was a focal point of the vast hunting grounds of the MacLeans of Duart, its ridges serving as vital lookouts over the strategic sea-lanes. Geologically, it is part of the Mull Tertiary Igneous Centre, its basalt and gabbro rocks recording the heart of an ancient volcano over 60 million years ago. It remains a witness to the enduring traditions of exploration that define the Isle of Mull, offering a quiet, uncompromised encounter with the wild spirit of the islands.
