Garbh Chioch Mhòr Terrain Block

Garbh Chioch Mhòr, the 'Big Rough Place of the Breast', is a rugged, savage mountain in the heart of Knoydart. It forms part of a magnificent rocky ridge that encloses the head of Loch Quoich. The terrain is rough, complex, and unyielding, offering some of the toughest walking in Scotland. The Garbh Chioch ridge is legendary among connoisseurs of wild places.

About Garbh Chioch Mhòr

This area was the heartland of the MacDonell clan. The rough terrain made it a natural fortress. The drystone walls found high on the ridge are relics of the sheep farming boom that displaced the people during the Clearances.
