About Hart Fell

The naming of Hart Fell reflects a time when the great Caledonian forest extended into these southern hills, providing a habitat for the red deer and stags (harts) that once roamed here in great numbers. Its history is one of healing and exploration; the discovery of its mineral spring in the 18th century transformed the nearby town of Moffat into a thriving spa destination. Today, the mountain remains a place of sanctuary, its slopes home to the same wild spirit that drew the early shepherds and Victorian travellers to its high, grassy ridges, standing as a timeless guardian over the source of the River Annan.
