About Leathad an Taobhain

The name Leathad an Taobhain likely translates as the 'Slope of the Side' or 'Bank', referring to its position as a massive boundary between the historically significant Gaick and Feshie forests. These lands were once the exclusive hunting grounds of the Earls of Atholl and have been maintained for centuries as a wild refuge for red deer. Historically, the Gaick Pass below its slopes was a vital, albeit high and dangerous, route through the central Highlands. The mountain remains a witness to the ancient traditions of stalking and the enduring, wild character of the Grampian mountains.
