Mam Sodhail Terrain Block

Standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Càrn Eige, Mam Sodhail is a massive mountain in its own right. It dominates the head of Glen Affric with its huge, rounded slopes. The summit is crowned by a colossal cairn, built by Ordnance Survey surveyors in the 19th century, which is so large it has been known to serve as a shelter.

About Mam Sodhail

The 'Hill of the Barns' played a key role in the mapping of Scotland; the summit cairn was a major triangulation station. Uniquely, the cairn is hollow and historically contained a visitor's book for the few who ventured this far.
