About Meall na h-Aisre

True to its name—the 'Hill of the Pass'—this peak served as a vital landmark for centuries, its ridges used by the clans and later the military engineers mapping the strategic Corrieyairack route. Historically, it was a focal point for the construction of General Wade's military roads in the 1730s, its ridges providing a vantage point over the route. Geologically, it is composed of metamorphic Dalradian schist, its forms smoothed by the massive ice sheets that once covered the entire central landscape. It remains a witness to the enduring traditions of travel and exploration that define the central Highlands, offering a quiet, uncompromised encounter with the wild spirit of the hills.
