About Meall na h-Eilde

True to its name—the 'Hill of the Hind'—this peak has for centuries been part of the vast royal hunting grounds of the Arkaig estate, its lands historically vital for the wild deer herds and the ancient highland clans. Historically, its ridges were vital lookouts for the hunters and later the stalkers who maintained this landscape for red deer. Geologically, it is composed of metamorphic Moine rock, its forms smoothed by the massive ice sheets that once covered the entire northern landscape. It remains a witness to the enduring traditions of travel and exploration that define the western Highlands, offering a quiet, uncompromised encounter with the wild spirit of the hills.
