True to its name—the 'Hill of the Hares'—this peak reflects the rich, heathery biodiversity of its slopes, which have for centuries provided autumn food for the wild deer and the ancient highland clans. Historically, it was a focal point of the vast hunting grounds of the Breadalbane estate, its lands historically part of the ancient ecclesiastical and military history of the region. Geologically, it is composed of metamorphic Dalradian rock, its forms smoothed by the massive ice sheets that once covered the entire central landscape.
