Mount Keen Terrain Block

Mount Keen is the most easterly Munro, a solitary granite cone rising from the Mounth plateau. It stands alone, far from other big hills, giving it a distinct identity. The ascent via Glen Esk or Glen Tanar involves a long cycle or walk through beautiful pine forests and heather moorland. The summit, with its rocky tor, offers views all the way to the coast on a clear day.

About Mount Keen

Often called an 'Inselberg' or island mountain. It lies on the Mounth Road, an ancient track across the Grampians used by Roman legions, kings, and cattler drovers. The 'Queen's Well' at its foot is a monument to Queen Victoria, who famously stopped there.
