About Sgurr Dhomhnuill

Sgùrr Dhòmhnuill—'Donald's Peak'—is a link to the ancient clan heritage of Ardgour, potentially named after a local chief or hunter of the MacDonald or MacLean clans. Historically, it was a focal point for the early lead and silver mining industry in Strontian, its slopes explored for the minerals that once brought industry to this remote glen. Geologically, it is part of the Moine supergroup, its rocks recording millions of years of tectonic pressure, now evident in its folded rocks and sharp ridges. Today, it remains a mountain of profound solitude, requiring long expeditions from the road-ends that preserve its status as the cornerstone of the Ardgour hills.
